The objective of STPM is to pass people?

How do you explain the fact that 87% of the students passed the exams
recently, when during your father's time only 10% would have passed?

Are students getting smarter?
Or are STPM questions getting easier?
Let me put things in their proper perspective.


During your grandfather's time, they would ask exam questions like:
"In what year did Parameswara founded the kingdom of Melaka ?"
The correct answer was "1402", and they found that only 10% of the
students managed to answer the question correctly.
This didn't go down too well with the authorities, because the
objective of the exams was to pass people.
I mean, what's the point of having exams if people fail?


So later, they found another way to ask the same question:

"Parameswara founded the kingdom of Melaka in the year:
(a) 2001
(b) 2004
(c) 1986
(d) 1975
(e) 1402
Tick the correct answer."


The results were better in that 20% of the students passed.
But it was still not good enough, so the authorities tried a different
tactic a few
years later.

"Parameswara founded the kingdom of Melaka in the year 1402. True
or false?"

Well, half of the students guessed "True" and the other half guessed "False".

Fully 50% passed.


The results were getting pretty acceptable by now but still not good enough.
Most other countries would be satisfied with a 50% passing rate, but not us.
We are a better country, because we are a boleh country.
The authorities then cracked their heads and then came out with this one:

Read the following sentence carefully.

"Parameswara, the cousin of Proton-Iswara, founded the kingdom of Melaka
in the year 1402.
Underline the name of the person who founded Melaka."

60% underlined "Parameswara",
30% underlined "Proton-Iswara" and
10% underlined "1402"

Yeah!!!!....60% managed to pass!
So krever!



But for some reason, the authorities were still not contented.
So last year, they came out with this gem:


"One day in the year 1402, Parameswara founded the kingdom of Melaka .
Then he went home to have dinner.
What did he eat?"
13% (smart students) handed in blank answers,
57% wrote "Maggi Mee",
10% wrote " Kentucky Fried Chicken" and
20% wrote "Nasi Lemak".

The correct answer was anything concerning "Food" of course!



After the marking was over, it was found that 87% of the students had passed.
87%!!!!!............now that's pretty impressive!

So it's true.


So now the authorities are very happy that the students are indeed
getting smarter?

Well done Boleh-land!



Perhaps, this is why we have a host of students with an impressive
string of 'As' who can hardly construct a decent sentence!

Neow mind, our super-duper gomen can find a job for us one.

Yeah...my crazy Tuesday schedule really killing me. Thank god this week no tutorial so I can relax abit more. I know the breaks in between seems to make things look less tough, but those break are really useless to me because I can't sleep during those break. My habit I guess. So what I can do is go online during the breaks, but I got nothing to do online either because I usually use it to takei or chat only, which neither can be done in the school's computers. So that leaves me to just rotting during my break. Anyhow, with the breaks aside, I have to wake up as early as 6am to prepare and take THREE public buses to Monash. Today I reach the first bus stop at 6.30am and I reach Monash main gate at around 8.40am. Yes. It was very slow indeed. Hopefully this is the worst possible timing as I will be required to take public buses every Tuesday and Thursday to uni, and possible some Thursdays to go back(if JY can't fetch). Still trying to adapt to this type of life. Hopefully it'll be a routine for me(no I don't mean I hope it happens forever to me but instead I will get used to it like as if I do it everyday). I really pray next sem's timetable is far lovelier than this sem's one because this one is really BLEH! Also I would like to thank my cousins and auntie for providing me transportation on other days, and thank you JY beforehand because I know I will find you and you will fetch me(he's cool on the outside, but warm on the inside XD). Only officially 2nd day in uni and I have quite an amount of tutorials to finish. Wow, the uni life doesn't waste time huh? Guess I'll sacrifice my social life from now til 6 months later, where I will hatch from my social shell for a few weeks and then crawl back inside for another round of bashing uni fun.

On the side note, I failed. Sorry. That's all. Rmb to vote lime or dime.

Lime or Dime?

Problem
In today's society, the value of money is depreciating, yet money itself is becoming more valuable. Contradicting but true. One day, someone asked me, "hey seng wai, if you were to choose between a lime or a dime, which one would you choose?" To be honest, I cannot choose either one back then, I told him to give me some time to think over it. So what are the winning factors of lime and dime that could possibly make me choose one of them? Let's compare!



Comparison
Value
A dime is worth 10 cents. But a lime can worth up to FIFTY CENTS!!!! I remember ordering 'Teh O' Limau Ais' for a whopping, unforgiving price of RM 1.70 at Williams, but my friend who've ordered "Teh O' Ais' cost him only RM1.20! OMG! Just 1 lime can cost up to 50 cents! Clearly lime is worth much more than dime here. 1 point for lime!

Usefulness
Let's face it, 1 dime can't even get you sweets these days. Maybe at certain Mamak Restaurants you can still buy 2 Hacks sweets for a dime, but most stalls I go to sells 3 Hacks sweets for 2 dimes. Of course, we can be creative. A dime can be used to draw tiny circles, so no super mini compasses are needed for a nice, round small circle of radius 9mm. We can even use it to dig our nose, dig our teeth(if floss is too thin for ur huge teeth gap), shave, tickle someone, throw at a friend, throw at a enemy, throw at yourself, throw into a wishing well(i doubt ur wish will come true), and many more. Lime on the other hand can also do much especially in the food industry, making certain food and drinks nicer. It is also acidic so you can use it to cure Wasp sting! Hallelujah~! However since we're only using 1 dime, it's only fair that we only use 1 lime, so you better hope that's a baby wasp stinging you. I would give this point a draw since they are both good in their own ways.

Style
Oh my, dimes can be so beautifully decorated with sceneries of symbolic buildings according to different country. It also comes in different shapes and sizes like for a Malaysia dime, it's round and shiny(mostly). Limes are just round with occasional brown spots. Dime wins!

Popularity
When it comes to popularity, both lime and dime are internationally famous. There may be chunks of people here and there who don't know what's a lime or a dime or both but the amount is insignificant compared to the global population. So I declare this point a draw!



Verdict
So after listing out the comparison between these 2 items, I have come to a straight forward, down-to-earth conclusion, which is there is no conclusion! Yes I have wasted you a hefty amount of 2-3 minutes reading all these just to realise I didn't make a decision LOL! Now now, before you attack me the next time you see me, think about this. What will you choose? A lime, or a dime? It's entirely up to you.

Tired

I remember the toll taken on me by public transportation. I came home and immediately lie dead on the floor, right after setting the alarm on my phone to 6.30. When it rang, I felt like dying because I was so tired, I'm awoken abruptly from my deep slumber. I cannot continue my sleep no matter how tempting it is. Lazed around for another 10 min, and off to bathing and choosing clothing for me. They came and picked me up. I was moody that time so I didn't really talked much, though small conversations were made among us. Chelle thought that I already know where we are dining at since the name is mentioned many times. True, the numerous repetition was a dead give away, but I was too distracted to catch those clues that they indirectly gave away anyway. So we just had our buffet dinner at Citadel(if I didn't recall wrongly). It was for my birthday which was 1 day before that day. So I tried my best to enjoy the dinner. It was a typical dinner, you know, laughs and good food, satisfied stomach. Then all of us moved to Chelle's house for a little horror movie. I must admit there were parts that scared me, and those thrilling moments I did look away. But being far less afraid of the show than Edwyn is, I get to see a few "surprise" scenes which he conveniently missed. Darn. Further more, I have nobody to hug, hold tightly, or hide behind of if I'm too scared. Thank goodness it wasn't too much. Oh ya, the horror film we watched was "Coming Soon". Not recommended because I've seen far more scarier movies. Story line is also kind of dumb, in the sense that it's too unreal, illogical. After movie, went mamak then home. As I reach home, I wasn't really too tired. Felt happy and sad at the same time, so I decided to go online to try to ease up on the emotions there. Slept around 4am.

Today, rot at home for half the day because my eldest brother was using the computer. Lately I'm being quite negative due to negative occurrences happening around me. I can't help but to feel loneliness and a feeling of losing things. It isn't my day at all. As usual, Mamak Gang "rolled out" tonight, but we get a break from the regular routine. No takei tonight but instead went adventure to KL. It was a very brief adventure. I spent most of my time dozing off slightly and disturbing Vincent. Vincent(who haven't pass driving) an Alwin drove Reuben's kancil for a small round outside Jessica's house. It was a random moment I guess. Just got to know Jessica is going to leave in 5 months time and although she claims to stay there for 3 years, I'm pretty sure she'll come back to Malaysia during her long break. As much as I hate to admit it, I think I'll miss her slightly too. She did ask me "will you miss me?" but I didn't give her a definite answer. So here's one. Oh and of course today my friend kind of open up a little bit, feeling less depressed and beginning to accept things. I'm just very happy for her. I hope everyone around me will be happy all the time, even if it means I have to be the only one sorrowing. I do mind, but if we look at the bigger picture, it's definitely worth it.

When will I find true happiness? One day, happiness will come solely by itself without the companionship of other negative feelings. I do hope that day do come.

Sometimes the answers are not that important. Sometimes, accepting it is the best thing to do. After all, everything in life has many points of views. I can do a good act like giving a poor man some money, but if you want to see it negatively, you can say I'm being a jerk, insulting the poor man with my filthy money. Optimism and believe are the key to a happy, contented life :D

Swollen finger!

Helped dad today with the laundry.... Normally, washing machines makes life easier, but the water supply was so slow today I pee stronger than the currents entering the machine. So, being a very filial son, I decided to help my dad with the water carrying! The first 4 buckets was easy, but after that, my fingers start to sore. My fat fingers are not so good with heavy things because it tends to get sore easily, like that feeling u get from carrying a plastic bag of heavy things, your hand isn't tired, but the fingers feels like its been vigorously rubbed with sandpaper. Yeah! Haha! After 10+ buckets finally done! Hoorah! Now it's time to relax :D.

Ever wondered what does "FM" and "AM" means at the back of radio stations, like Hitz.fm? FM stands for frequency modulation and AM stands for amplitude modulation. But before I go on, what is modulation? Modulation is the process of varying one waveform in relation to another waveform. Through modulation, a low-frequency information signal is conveyed by a high-frequency sinusoidal carrier wave(needed because the original information signal will suffer from too much damping and interference to reach a far distance). In telecommunications, frequency modulation (FM) conveys information over a carrier wave by varying its frequency. Amplitude modulation (AM) does the same except this time it's the amplitude of the carrier that is varied while its frequency remains constant.

For radio stations, both AM and FM are used. "But why it's always FM that we usually listen to, and not AM?" you ask? Well, for once, AM is not very suitable due to multiple reasons. AM radio signals can be severely disrupted in large urban centres by metal structures, tall buildings and sources of radio frequency interference (RFI) and electrical noise, such as electrical motors, fluorescent lights, or lightning. As a result, AM radio in many countries has lost its dominance as a music broadcasting service, and in many cities is now relegated to news, sports, religious and talk radio stations. Some musical genres – particularly country, oldies, nostalgia and ethnic/world music – survive on AM, especially in areas where FM frequencies are in short supply or in thinly populated or mountainous areas where FM coverage is poor.

On the other hand, FM is much more favoured by local radio stations. As the name implies, wide band FM (W-FM) requires a wider signal bandwidth than amplitude modulation by an equivalent modulating signal, but this also makes the signal more robust against noise and interference. Frequency modulation is also more robust against simple signal amplitude fading phenomena. As a result, FM was chosen as the modulation standard for high frequency, high fidelity radio transmission: hence the term "FM radio". A high-efficiency radio-frequency switching amplifier can be used to transmit FM signals (and other constant-amplitude signals). For a given signal strength (measured at the receiver antenna), switching amplifiers use less battery power and typically cost less than a linear amplifier. This gives FM another advantage over other modulation schemes that require linear amplifiers, such as AM

Then why don't all stations convert to FM? There are certain limitations to FM as well. One of it's main reason is that it's very expensive to make and maintain FM modulators. This problem worsens as the coverage area of FM waves is considerably shorter than AM waves, meaning many stations are needed to cover all the areas that probably 1 AM station is enough. You'll also probably realise sometimes the signals received by your radio is not clear, or produce "fuzzy" noise. This is due to the fact that strong FM signals can bleed over into neighboring frequencies making the frequencies unusable with the transmitter. Combined with the relatively low power output of FM transmitters, FM can sometimes be unsuitable for use in some large urban areas because of the number of other radio signals.

Now you know more about the meaning behind FM and AM. Yes you, the one reading this. Hope that doesn't disrupt your taste for radio music. Now if we can only make them stop replaying the same song for 10 times in an hour.

Hot N Cold

Dunno why I'm feeling hot AND cold at the same time...its like my internals are heating up yet my skin is freezing! Lool! Perhaps I'm falling sick? Oh my! I hope this is not a sign of fever. If not, then i might be vulnerable to the attack of H1N1 virus! Haha! Nvm I don't feel feverish so should still be ok :D!

Woooish! Who knew that going out everyday could be so demanding on the body and on the pocket! Here I wanna thank Reu, Jian, Chan and recently Yung for providing me the much necessary transport for me to socialise with everyone! Sorry for the petrol consumption! I'll try to stuff in some "belanjaing" in my budget lols.

Oh no! My holiday vapourising faster than the hair on vincent's leg during a slurp game. How la liddat! I hope I can enter nerding mode for these 4 years so that I will get some scholarship or something! If can't also nothing to say la but of course we as sons and daughters should always try to reduce the stress of our parents! SCHOLARSHIP FTW~!
